Our foals are all imprinted and handled daily.  They know how to have their feet handled,  they are halter broke, they trailer load and much more. 

At 2 years we typically start saddle training and short trail rides.  Arena work is delayed until the 3rd or even 4th year depending on the individual horse's physical and mental readiness.

They live on mountainous, rocky terrain, learning early how to handle their feet, avoid gopher and rabbit holes, rattlers, etc.  They daily view wildlife:  elk, deer, bobcats, coyotes, rabbits and thus are very unconcerned about them when they meet them on the trail.  They have also been exposed to motorcycles, four wheelers, bicycles, dogs, pigs, children, etc which also makes for an easy going trail or show horse.
